`Dabba' food and pies

Food fests Choose from low cal menu, pies and set dosas at the on going food fiestas in town

Think of Mumbai at lunch hour and an impressive `dabbawala' chain comes to the mind, where the busy workforce is treated to sumptuous ghar ka khana every day without fail. "The dabba comes from the south Indian `tiffin' concept," explains Chef Neeraj Chaudhry, Executive Chef, Taj Banjara (Tel: 55669999) as he lines up Masala Poori, Muttai Dosa, Kheema Paratha, Rasa Wada, Semiya Tomato Bhat, M.L.A. Pessarattu, Set Dosa, Kothu Paratha and more for the on going Dabbawala food festival. (3 p.m.— 10.30 p.m., till June 5)

Served in the traditional copper `dabbas', the cuisine makes for an ideal midday snack or an early supper. "The spread is an amalgam of Western and south Indian cuisine ," he explains. Drop in for Tapalintu— Andhra rice bread served with clarified butter, curd and onion chutney or a Semiya tomato bhat— a vermicelli and tomato melange.
