CHORDS AND NOTES
PHIR HERA PHERI
T Series
What is the best way to get instant popularity in the music circle today? Compose a vulgar number, throw it on the audience and then blame them for liking it, popularising it! The song "Pyar Ki Chatni" is one such recent example. Effortlessly sung by Sunidhi Chauhan, this foot tapping number is sure to be a hit among the patrons of cheap songs. This film by Firoz Nadiadwala, which is a sequel to Hera Pheri, patronises with pride, the ongoing trash that music director and now singer Himesh Reshammiya is delivering to the hilt. Lyricist Sameer adding to the litter with earthly songs, notwithstanding. Here too Himesh doesn't stop himself from singing "Mujhko Yad Sataye Teri" and "Ai Meri Zohra Jabeen" in solo. The latter out of which is a sure beginner of his repetitive crooning style and music. Both the songs nonetheless are foot tapping. You would defiantly regret tapping your feet later though! The film's title song is sung by Sonu Nigam, Shaan and Rakesh Upadhyay while Kunal Ganjawala, Sundhi Chauhan and Arya sing another number "Dil Ne Diya". All the six songs have their remix version in the CD.
Stocking this type of a CD, which would for sure, make one jive for some time, would also hint at one's declining taste in decent music.
MEHFUZ
Sa Re Ga Ma, Rs.175
To go straight to the point, this offering of Euphoria is nowhere near its earlier albums, particularly the first one.
As the album goes from the first score to the last of the 12 numbers, you obviously wonder what has happened to the band that had such a promising start. It seems to have lost track of the genre it followed and now the impression Mehfuz gives is, it is trying its luck in every kind of singing, from Punjabi pop to soft romantic ones to just cacophony.
Of all the numbers, "Bin-Yah-Min's Zabr Bhoola Sab" is the best. "Soneya" might appeal to listeners looking for light numbers in north India. "She is beautiful" and "Bewafaa" are passable. The theme number, "Mehfuz" can also be heard but over all, the sad part about the album is, none of the numbers are worth remembering.
Wonder where have the days of Euphoria's "Tuhi meri zindagi, tuhi meri harkhushi" gone?
