Hungry for more

The Capital saw a walk to overcome hunger the other day

TNT, a global leader in express and mail, United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) and its partners jointly organised "Fight Hunger - Walk The World" at the National Stadium in New Delhi this past Sunday.

The event aimed to raise awareness and resources to enable the eradication of child hunger and malnutrition. With this event, India has become the 110th country in the world and New Delhi the 400th city to join hands with the United Nations World Food Programme.

The Delhi Chief Minister Shiela Dikshit flagged off the event. Grish K. Manu, Kerala School, Vikaspuri, said, "I feel pleased to walk for a noble cause. And I hope such events will bring better awareness among others to come forward for the hapless."

A humanitarian move to counter hunger, the environment was colourful as a large number of children and people took a round of India Gate to express their solidarity and concern for the starving children.

Watching enthusiastic people and children, Dikshit expressed her pleasure, "I am very happy to see the huge gathering assembled here for a good cause. .

Comprehensive and silent

The participating adults and children enjoyed free food and beverages hosted by the organising committee. Anurag Menu said, "I feel proud of myself to be part of this comprehensive and silent demonstration for the starving people of the country and the world . This is my first experience to be part of such a cause."

"You children must make it a point to eradicate hunger in such a way that no one is left starving in the world," encouraged the Chief Minister.

Before the Walk, a painting competition was also organised for children on topics pertaining to food and hunger to encourage them and raise awareness regarding the event. Children of different age groups participated in the competition.

The reasons may be different but all the kids were happy to be a part of the Walk. Avishek Mishra of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Andrews Ganj, shared, "I enjoyed a lot by joining the mammoth procession because there were a great number of food and beverages stalls."

Another student, Monika Kaushik of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Ghaziabad, said, "I would only say that it is a colourful and good event. I also bagged a prize in the painting competition."
