A star-studded show

The party to launch the MetroPlus Lifestyle show combined fashion, food and fun
|
Vikram and Deepa Venkat share a laugh
It's difficult to say who the star of the MetroPlus Lifestyle Show party was. There was charming Vikram, looking suave in a sophisticated grey blazer, posing cheerfully for fans who scurried up to him between sequences to take pictures with their camera phones.
Lara Dutta was the evening's surprise
There was Madhavan, dressed sportily with an eye-catching diamond in one ear, proudly showing off pictures of his adorable baby boy, who has the most beautiful blue-grey eyes, by the way.
Shaam and Madhavan smile for the cameras
And Shaam, lost in nostalgia as he watched friends on the ramp ("Just five years ago, I was walking with them... They're really nice guys!), who obliged the audience by walking the ramp, watched fondly by Rahul Dev Shetty, who choreographed the show, and had worked with him during his modelling days.
Models walk the ramp
Actor Arya obligingly spoke on stage. Actress Poongodai; television stars Deepa Venkat, Chetan and Devadarshini; designers Chaitanya Rao, Rehane, Tina Vincent and Erum Ali; theatre actors... it was difficult to decide whether to watch the ramp, where models sizzled, or the audience, liberally peppered with celebrities.

Of course, everyone looked in just one direction, when the Gitanjali Group unveiled their most prized diamond, and Bollywood actress Lara Dutta walked the ramp for D'damas, flashing a big smile and intricately designed jewellery at the audience. And it wasn't difficult to keep gaping as the models, including Fleur Xavier, Neelam and Muzammil from Mumbai and Pashmina Barkar from Bangalore, catwalked past.
The show-stopping sari from RmKV
The event, held at the Taj Coromandel, the hospitality sponsors for the Lifestyle Show, opened with RmKV showcasing in a mind-boggling variety of saris Swarovski crystal-studded powder pinks worn with halter necks, intricately embroidered silks and a just-launched sari bathed in a kaleidoscope of more 1 lakh 35 thousand colours.

Then there was the Gitanjali group, with jewellery for all occasions: from stylish gold pendants to elaborate diamond encrusted necklaces. The Zimson round featured model wearing stylish watches on both wrists and holding them up for the audience to admire. Classic Polo unveiled smart semi-formal and casual shirts in pleasing blues and smart checks. The Samsung collection showed off their hi-sleek phones, camcorders and cameras. Provogue ended the show with a collection of smart shirts in classy colours and styles, and beautifully tailored women's wear in colours ranging from canary yellow to warm red.

The dinner turned out by Taj Coromandel's executive chef featured an interesting variety of north and south Indian dishes. The show is a precursor to the Hindu Metro Plus' annual LifeStyle show, which will be held at the Chennai Trade Centre between June 1 and 5.
