Short and sweet

Filmy channel has just opened a platform to choose good short films to play on it

In the age of reality TV, here arrives yet another platform. The idea this time has come from Sahara group's movie channel, Filmy and the hunt is to spot good short films. Shailesh Kapoor, the channel's Marketing and Content Head, says, "We are the first movie channel to take a keen interest in promoting the hidden talents in short film making through this short film festival." The promos of it are already on, and Kapoor says there is no eligibility to take part is the contest.

"The response so far has been good and we shall receive short films till June 30," he informs. Without getting into the specifics of it, he though mentions that the short films will have to fall in the eligibility criteria, following which they will be aired on Filmy. "We will also have a viewer vote plus there will be a panel of judges to select the best short films," he says. The panel has not been finalised yet and Kapoor feels, "not too many famous named will be included simply because the merit of the films should not get overshadowed by putting extra focus on the well-known personalities." Instead, he says the panel will have a lot of talented behind-the-scene people like camerapersons, scriptwriters and technicians, etc to provide the right feedback on the short-listed films. "If they are good enough we shall show them in film festivals too," he adds.

The winners will be announced in July-August and the films till then will be aired on the channel twice a week.

Talking more about the positioning of Filmy, Kapoor says newer and newer movie titles will be bought to "give viewers a sense of exclusivity."

"We have just begun operating but so far the feedback is good. The characters created for the channel, Lalaan and Rockky has been well-accepted," he sums up.
