Come June 6, and the city will get to watch some of the top Indian junior players mastering the greens during the Indian Golf Union categorised junior and sub-junior golf tournament at the Coimbatore Golf Club (CGC) course. The tournament has been granted regional status making it compulsory for all the leading juniors to play here to maintain their ranking in the national merit list.
"This is the first time that Coimbatore is playing host to a zonal tournament. The participation of the ranked juniors will no doubt mean thrilling contests," says Joseph Chakola of CGC.
The four-day tournament has attracted more than 70 entries.
The participants have been split into four age group categories - under-18, 15, 13 and 11.
Promising youngsters Vashishta Pawar and Siddarth Sharathram will lead the local challenge in the under-11 age group.
The dynamic duo who are active participants in the junior circuit are confident of making the best use of the home conditions.
A couple of days back, Vashishta made a hole-in-one in an IGU categorised tournament in Bangalore and walked away with a special prize.
