French taste
The Ambassador of France in India Dominique Girard inaugurated the Apéritif à la française festival in Delhi the other day. The festival which was organised by Sopexa, the Food and Beverage Marketing and Promotion Board of France, the French Embassy in India and the French Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries was held at 28 locations across the world at the same time.
The ambassador said, "Apéritif à la française" is synonymous with a festive atmosphere, sharing and pleasure. This tradition, very common in France provides a wonderful chance to let the world rediscover the variety and simplicity of French food and drinks products."
For India, the theme of Le Marché (a marketplace) was chosen with the market stalls of cheeses and dairy products, viennoiserie, forest mushrooms, condiments, fruits and vegetables and French wines, syrups and Ricard.
Set up in a panoramic room at the Mayfair rooms next to the majestic Qutb Minar, this seasonal grocery market was "open" to all lovers of France's fine food culture.
The atmosphere of festivity was created with live music by French musicians Glenn Louvet and Antoine Monin and spectacular dance performances by French dancers Isabelle Ana and Gilles Chuyen.
While a chef demonstrated the caramelisation and torching of crème brulee, live cooking demonstration from the recipes of mushrooms, raclette and fondue attracted a lot of interest. A French Café also served mocktails.
