DEADLY DUO To give a feel of the World Cup SriLankan Airlines and Airtel are employing different marketing strategies

As the excitement for the FIFA World Cup touches the crescendo, corporate houses are trying to use the event as a marketing tool. SriLankan Airlines is said to have launched the lowest fares amongst all international airlines to Frankfurt for the World Cup at Rs.20530 and mobile service provider Airtel promises to give you regular updates on the matches. The fare not inclusive of taxes avails a free stopover in Colombo including accommodation at an exquisite hotel with Sri Lankan meals. SriLankan Airlines flies daily from Bombay to Colombo and will have five flights a week from Colombo to Frankfurt. SriLankan Airlines will also be providing the passengers with discount vouchers on flight, which could be redeemed at shopping spas like ODEL, Dilmah, Mango Tree, Noritake, Lakpahana and Zam Gems. The offer for the free stopover is also valid on the return from Frankfurt-Colombo-Bombay on flight UL 558.

Says Dimuthu Tennakoon, Manager, Maharashtra and Gujarat, "We in Sri Lanka are avid sport enthusiasts and always try our best to promote the sporting culture. With a cult game like football, SriLankan Airlines has made sure to provide the best fares to our devout football fans in Mumbai for the World Cup. Making the offer an even more tempting one, SriLankan Airlines is offering a one day free stopover in Colombo where the passengers could shop for some exciting football memorabilia at fabulous discounts."

Airtel too

Similarly Airtel, which has got exclusive presenter sponsorship along with Coke and ESPN, is showing exclusive World Cup updates. Airtel has also lined up exciting contests for its users during the World Cup. One of the most interesting is Scream wherein Airtel users can dial 646 and say Scream and they can choose their favourite country and favourite mood: loud or funny. The lucky winner will win an all-expense holiday to their favourite football playing country.

Apart, from this Airtel also provides dedicated match preview service with expert analysis and opinions from ESPN Star Sports presenters and professional tipster: Pre-match analysis and predictions provided by ESPN Star Sports celebrity presenters.

Made-for-mobile `mobisodes' especially created for Airtel wherein each `mobisode' consists of 2-minute and 30-second previews clip on every World Cup 2006 match, which features match analysis and predictions by ESPN STAR Sports football analysts and pundits, as well as previous day highlights and team news. The other service that Airtel provides is the "ESPN Football Live", where `Live' alerts and news service providing the latest breaking team news, match updates and match fixtures, goal updates; half time / full time scores; yellow / red cards information; penalties etc. and a list of upcoming matches will be provided.
