Sequel mania

Suddenly, Bollywood is in the grip of sequel mania. Take a look at the releases scheduled for this year — "Phir Hera Pheri" releasing this Friday, followed by "Krrish" (June 23), "Munnabhai MBBS-2nd Innings" (August), "Dhoom-2" (Diwali) and "Hanuman - 2" (Christmas). Priyadarshan's "Hera Pheri", which was about the mad adventures of Raju (Akshay Kumar), Shyam (Suniel Shetty) and Baburao (Paresh Rawal), was a huge hit. Now Neeraj Vora, Priyadarshan's favourite scriptwriter, is making his debut as director with "Phir Hera Pheri", another comedy of errors. Says Neeraj: "The characters in 'Hera Pheri' enjoyed great recall value among audiences. So we created some more situations to make it a paisa vasool entertainer." The trade feels the film guarantees an opening due to the curiosity factor attached to it. If "Phir Hera Pheri" works at the box-office, then every successful film in Bollywood is sure to have a sequel.
