A DESTINED MATCH Dr. S. Thiagarajamurthy, director of Chennai Cardiac Centre at Chennai Kaliappa Hospital, with wife Dr. Deepa, obstetrician and gynaecologist, North Staffordshire Royal In?rmary in Stoke-On-Trent
Thiagarajamurthy
I went to Eastham in East London to clear my Professional and Linguistic Assessment Board examination. In the United Kingdom, a pass in PLAB is essential if one wishes to pursue higher studies (FRCS) in medicine. To make the path easier for their successors, old students of many a medical college in Chennai had rented out a house on Roseberry Avenue and set up a library that was full of books related to PLAB. While making use of this facility, I met Deepa who was there for the same reason. We could not interact much because we had just ten days to prepare for the exams. We passed PLAB and went our separate ways. Although I liked her, I had not worn my heart on my sleeve. But I could not stop myself from thinking about her. For almost one year, I was trying to get hold of her number.

Out of the blue, I got a call from TG (as Deepa calls him). The circumstances that led to the call, I am convinced, were arranged by destiny. His friend Vandana, who had studied MS with him in Pune, moved into my neighbourhood in Birmingham, along with her husband. In fact, she was living next door. Unknown to me, she had called him and told him that she had found the right girl for him. She had always said that she would find a suitable girl for him. Wonder of wonders, she did not know she was talking about the same girl he was interested in.
