A record feat?

More than 3,000 employees reach out to 30,000 people. Will they enter the record book?

On June 9, employees of Deloitte set a target of reaching out to more than 30,000 people through various social activities. Called Impact Day, this annual event saw the employees of the organisation across the world devote their work hours towards various activities. This time, the fact that 3,000 employees were involved in activities from 9 a.m to 5.30 p.m., attracted the Limca Book of World Records.

Two officials from the Limca group were in Hyderabad to inspect the teams or `threads' of Deloitte. Amreen Toor, Assistant Editor of Limca Book of Records, says, "Since their activities are spread out across the city, we may be able to inspect only a few of them. We've seen their thread `Beyond Barriers' through which they are helping physically challenged children. Next, we'll be moving to the thread `Councillor.' Here, they plan to work out a syllabus for young adults in coordination with Byrraju Foundation."

Does the organisation stand a chance from getting into the record book? "It will take us a while, perhaps until June 30, to decide on that. If they gain an entry, it will be in the `Human Story' section of the record book for 2007," adds Amreen. The Impact Day had professionals helping man the traffic at busy intersections, conducting a health camp for junior artistes from the film industry, meeting patients at the Niloufer and Gandhi hospitals, and interacting with more than 3,000 children in orphanages among other activities.
