BEAUTY GUIDE Learn to enhance the good features with make-up

A little lipstick and a bit of kajal, and you can put your best face forward. Make-up can accentuate your good features and tone down the flaws.

Office-goers can choose makeup that will stay for six, eight or twelve hours. It can make them look fresh, even after a hard day at work. But whatever you do, ensure that your skin is clean before you apply make-up. Start with cleansing your face with ice water or PH-balanced water. Then apply concealers for those dark patches and circles under the eyes. Apply a foundation, which matches your complexion. "Dry skinned people should go for oil-based foundation and oily skinned people, for clay-based ones," says Jerlin Calingarayar of Jase Beauty Clinic on Mission Street. "Leave the foundation to set for a few minutes and then apply loose powder. Never use ordinary face powder over foundation. Go for loose powder that matches your complexion. These days you get foundations with Sun Protecting Factor (SPF), which prevents the skin from the sun's rays."

According to Gowri, a beauty advisor at the Revlon showroom, for daytime it is better to choose light shades and subtle makeup. Go in for brown, caramel and light pink shades of lipsticks (avoid glitters). "For parties or get-togethers in the evening you can choose bright colours such as purple, maroon and plum colour lipsticks with glitter," she suggests. "There are lipsticks with 99 per cent moisturiser to keep your lips moist. Always line your lips before filling it. Bigger lips can be made to appear small and small ones attractively big with the help of lip liners."

Eye make-up is an important aspect of your look, says Kanmani, a beautician from Lawspet. "Highlight the beauty of your eyes with a liner. Those who have big round eyes should line the upper eyelids fully. But if your eyes are small and narrow, line half of the upper eyelids. Beauty of our eyelashes is enhanced by mascara. Mascara can make the eyelashes stand out. If your eyes are dull, use blue or brown mascara. If the lashes are not long and thick, you can enhance them five times over with mascara."

Lips, eyes and now to the nose. Not all of us have a perfectly shaped nose. But with make-up you can make it appear sharp and narrow.

But at the end of the day don't forget to remove the make-up to keep your skin healthy and glowing.
