WORLD MUSIC DAY There are dance and jam sessions apart from music at the Alliance Francaise today

Alliance de Francaise has collaborated with the Embassy of France in India and the French Ministry of Culture and Communication and the Republique Française to celebrate World Music Day. The uniqueness of the fest this year is that it celebrates its silver jubilee.

This festival was started in 1981 and ever since thousands of musicians, both amateur and professional, gather at all public places to celebrate the true spirit of music in France, say the organisers.

In keeping with the tradition, this year Alliance is organising the fest with not just music but also dance and jam sessions. There are two tickets to France and back to be won as a prize.

The Fête de la Musique will be celebrated today at three different venues on the premises of the Alliance Francaise. At the auditorium, at 4.30 p.m., various bands will perform Indian and Western classical numbers, songs, choirs, jazz numbers, fusion music, indi-pop and rock. At the Atrium at 5. 30 p.m., you can watch dance performances by Body Language, Rock around the Clock, Zealers, STEM , Shiri and Abhilash and Hip Hoppers. In the basement is the open stage where the jam sessions begin at 7.30 p.m. There will also be a special performance by Prakash Sontakke and Karthik Mani, Rivers and Amit Heri Trio.

The programme is sponsored by Air France, Schneider Electric, Decathlon, Eurocopter and Aeca Design.
