Seducing the senses

Great aroma draws you to Temptations. The senses take over once you get in

This cosy place offers authentic Punjabi cuisine

FAMILY ENTERPRISE The Uppals personally supervise every aspect of the eatery

It's a humble-looking joint in BDA Complex, R.T. Nagar. But the heady aroma of spices that hangs around the place sure has a magnetic pull. No wonder it's called Temptations Food Court.

The joint was started in the '90s by V. Sanju Uppal, who holds a degree in hotel management. Sanju had a natural inclination to this sector, whose father had worked with Hotel Ashok for 20 years. Sanju's father, in fact, pitches in and helps in running the place. Uppal senior's experience (especially with his great PR skills) is evident in the way the place is run. Sanju's mom too helps and adds a homey, welcoming air to it. The Uppals ensure that food is served fast and hot off the tava.

The trio shares responsibilities comfortably and switches roles when necessary between playing chef, cashier and steward. But clearly, mother and Sanju are the true blue gourmets. The cosy place is surrounded by lush green trees and offers authentic Punjabi cuisine. Given the demand for Chinese dishes, Temptations has them on its menu too.

The menu is pretty impressive with both veg and non-veg options with stuffed parathas and Kolkata rolls. Here you can bite into hot paneer, aloo or chicken paratha served hot with butter, thick curds and a tangy pickle. What's Kolkata rolls doing on a Punjabi menu, you might ask. But please note, they are parathas or rotis stuffed with only Punjabi sabzi. Try their egg menu too, called what else but Andey Da Funda.

The Chinese delicacies, one notices, have been adequately Indianised. This section offers noodles in veg, egg, chicken and chicken kabab options, priced Rs. 20 upwards. Temptations is a reasonably-priced place, with parathas priced at Rs. 14 upwards, noodles between Rs. 20 and Rs. 29, raitha at Rs. 14 and curds at Rs. 4.

Temptations is not a great place if you are a compulsive rice eater. But you won't exactly starve either, with options such as jeera rice, plain rice and vegetable fried rice. Temptations offers free home delivery for orders priced above Rs. 100 and charges Rs. 15 for door delivery for orders billed below Rs. 99.

People flock to the place not only to eat there, but also to take away food. A filling meal for two here comes at Rs. 150, something pretty reasonable.

Temptations is open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and again from 7 p.m. to 10.30 p.m.

It is closed on Tuesdays.

Temptations can be contacted on 57666332.
