CAMPUS ROMANCE Dr. Vidya and Dr. Ram Pradeep of Krishnas Skin, Cosmetology & Medical Centre

Ram Pradeep

Kudos to the power that predetermines the course of events, we were thrown together on numerous occasions. Since she was my junior at MSRNC, Bangalore, we had to meet outside the classroom to get to know each other. We did not have to make the effort though, because of this mysterious power, which seemed to send opportunities our way, thick and fast. For a while, even the playground seemed madly inclined to pair us off. Many a time, we found ourselves exchanging pleasantries even though we were interested in different sport. During my UG, I was riding a snazzy dirt bike, which announced itself even before it arrived. A few of our common friends, who were staying outside the campus, were celebrating Holi. Vidya and I went together on the bike to make a few purchases for the celebration, but halfway we hit an auto and had to be taken to a hospital, with broken bones and badly burnt patches of skin. While we were convalescing, we really got talking.

Vidya

When we told our families about the feelings of solicitude we had for each other, they realised there was more than friendship there. They got us walking down the aisle, immediately after we finished our undergraduation in medicine. We were not ones to settle for just a UG, and just when we wondered if our aspirations would take us to different colleges, or worse, different cities, the power that seemed to always conspire to throw us together, took charge. We got to do our post-graduation in medicine in a prestigious college in Mangalore. We were study mates and soul mates. We went on to practise medicine together. We influence each other where hobbies are concerned. He has always had a strong thing for vintage vehicles. After marriage, I found myself using the Volkswagen Beetle more than the easier-to-drive, city traffic-centric Maruti 800.

(As told to
