Who needs counselling?
|
What happens to parents and students who have not made it through the plus two exams, asks R. Jayachandran
|
Everyone knows that students who have secured cut off marks above 250 are assured of a berth in the best colleges. Their parents are a relieved lot for all their efforts have paid off.
But it is the plight of parents whose children have scored between 200 and 230 that is to be noted.
These students have studied well but apparently not well enough.
But they are still hoping to get admission in engineering colleges.
There are still those who are groping in the dark, as they are unsure whether they should wait for an engineering admission or go ahead and join some other arts and science college to be on the safe side.
It is these children and their parents who need real counselling, along with those who have failed to clear the State Board exam or who are borderline cases.
While everyone knows that the toppers will get the college and the course of their choice, no one seems to be interested to know what happens to the students and parents who are not so fortunate.
The focus should be more on them.
Instead of writing and talking so much about the success stories, one must lend a ear to the unfortunate students and parents and provide them with some solace, counselling and encouragement to remain in the race.
