MUSICAL NIGHT Karunya keeps audience on its feet

It was time to swing and sway for boys and girls and even some kids as the new singing sensation Karunya belted out popular numbers in Telugu and Hindi at the Gurazada Kalakshetram on Thursday evening.

Karunya struck an instant rapport with the crowd saying he loved the people of Vizag for their taste in receiving both old melodies and new songs with equal enthusiasm. The crowd was up on its feet as soon as he began the evening with the invocation song to Lord Ganesha "Jai Jai Ganesha...Jai Kodatha Ganesha..." from `Jai Chiranjeeva'. Singer Hazrat supported him well and the troupe from Hot Steppers danced to the tunes well.

The audience responded with thunderous applause as Karunya said: "My special purpose in coming to north Andhra for the first time is to revive the great songs of the legendary singer Ghantasala". They listened in rapt attention as he sang "Raaga mayi rave..." Though the voice was excellent, he didn't make any attempt to imitate the voice of the legendary singer. The crowd was once again up on its feet as Karunya sang his debut song from the Telugu film `Something special' along with Hazrat.

Karunya's song from Hindi films were also well received by the crowd. Girls were seen swinging and gesturing to the singer. A few kids were also seen dancing in their seats. `Kaba...Kaba...' from the film Monsoon Wedding and `Dum, dum, diga, diga ...' reflected his ease in singing different types of songs. Anchor Anu and ventriloquist Botta Nageswara Rao compered the show.
