Simply scrumptious

The festival continues till just before the onset of the monsoon

The things people like best about summer: ice cream, cool drinks and mangoes of course. And what if these were blended together? Well, this is not just another summer reverie. Now available at every Nirula's outlet, it is a dream come true for all the mango lovers out there. Nirula's recently inaugurated a month long mango festival.

Mango Mania, as it called, will satisfy your sweet tooth as it ranges from mango ice cream shakes to mousse and pastries. Little pieces of mango mixed into the confectionaries give them a tasty twist.

Alfonso and Safeda

According to Sandeep Madan, General Manager, Marketing, "We hope that people come and try our special mango delicacies, because this is the first time we've introduced such a festival."

Primarily made with the popular Alfonso and Safeda mangoes, the confectionaries are not only a treat to the taste buds but also a delight to the eyes. The reason according to Madan, for choosing these two mango varieties was that these are "liked by most people, readily available and top the quality barometer."

The mousse and gateaux make delicious desserts, although they are a little heavy. The mango ice cream is also available in a 500 ml tub, which can be taken home to savour during your favourite football match this season.

While mango specials are not entirely a new phenomenon at Nirula's, it is the first time such a wide range of delicacies is available. Mango Mania is said to be a result of the research and trials of Nirula's production team, who've managed to come up with 10 innovative summer recipes, including five confectionaries and five ice cream-based products.

Till the monsoon

The festival continues till just before the onset of the monsoon. Madan adds, "We use fresh mango pulp, which is where the colour of the desserts is obtained. There are no artificial flavours and colours."

The prices of the desserts range from Rs.24 for a mango pastry, to Rs.77 for a mango triple sundae. The most expensive is the 1kg mango gateau for Rs.370.

On the whole, Mango Mania is reasonably priced, and you'll surely get mango in every form!
