TWO IS COMPANY Satyakumar and Anupama comlement one another in all aspects
They have very similar backgrounds, but they have their own separate perspectives. They, however, share an amazing life together. Anupama is a pathologist and Satyakumar, an orthopaedic surgeon. Though they were born and brought up in Vijayawada and studied medicine in Karnataka, they never met until they completed M.B.B.S., just before their very much an arranged marriage.
Anupama studied in a medical college in Bangalore and Satyakumar, in Mangalore. They went to the same college in Dawanagere to complete their post-graduation after getting married.
Anupama, who teaches at the Pinnamaneni-Siddhartha Medical College, wants to serve humanity by getting into cancer research.
Satyakumar wants to lead a more laidback back life doing the best he can for the patient who comes to the private orthopaedic hospital he runs.
Cars and electronic gadgets are Satyakumar's passion, but he never gets sentimentally attached to them. He was among the first to buy a Honda City, has since then graduated to an SUV, the Honda CR-V, is now eyeing a car manufactured by Toyota.
Mobile phones are yet another passion of his. There is no high-end phone that he has not used and discarded. His affection for machines and gadgets is evident that it sometimes makes even Anupama insecure.
Watching films on DVD in his home theatre is a compulsion for Satyakumar. He has a collection of about 1,000 films and watches a minimum of two films a day, seven days a week. The best movie of the week he keeps aside to watch with Anupama on Sunday.
Anupama leads a relatively austere life, working long hours in her lab, at the college and with the computer; surfing the internet to further her knowledge in her specialisation. She also loves dance. She learnt classical dance until she left home to study medicine. Satyakumar understands Anupama's ambitions and never interferes in her work.
Movie buffs
Savouring chicken saag and roti, Satyakumar went on explaining how passionate he is with movies. Anupama, a strict veggie, narrated how movies are fitted into the family's busy schedule over a roti and kadai vegetable.
However hard she works during the week, it is family time on weekends. The couple makes it a point to go to cinema theatre for Saturday night show. Movies starring Mahesh Babu are given first preference. "He is a big fan of Mahesh and his father Krishna. If work permits, he sees Mahesh's films in exhibition show and I have to accompany him again to the movie on the first day," says Anupama. Of the Hollywood stars, Satyakumar likes Bruce Willis and Harrison Ford.
Anupama enjoys Amitabh Bachchan flicks because they remind her of the times she used to go to Big B's films with her father. The working couple has entered into a "deal" to spend time together on the weekends.
An active `lady member' of the Vijayawada Club (of which there are just a handful), Anupama makes time to organise programmes for the spouses of the gentlemen members. The ladies' night for which she strived for over two months was a big hit.
Satyakumar goes every morning to the club for a workout. The couple have also enrolled themselves with Ice and Bubbles, the new health and fitness club in the city.
