Suhasini explores marital discord
|
Writer Sujatha Rangaran's short story Iru Kaditham (Two Letters), written almost three decades ago, still resonates with today's life and times. A story that talks about the eternal problem of marital discord, throws light on the turmoil faced by young Indians settled abroad. The story has now been adapted to a play, scripted and directed by Suhasini Maniratnam. Titled Reading Between the Lines, the play stars Suhasini and Uma Padmanabhan and has music by maestro Ilayaraja. Suhasini plays a 27-year-old NRI daughter settled in San Francisso who seeks help from her mother, Uma Padmanabhan, a chemistry professor living in India.
The play will be staged in Hyderabad by the Qadir Ali Baig Theatre Foundation to mark the anniversary of theatre doyen Qadir Ali Baig. The play will be staged at ITC Kakatiya Sheraton and Towers on June 19, 7.00 p.m., and Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan on June 20, 7.30 p.m. Donor passes of Rs. 100, 300 and 500 can be obtained from A.A. Hussain (Abids), Sangeet Sagar (Paradise circle, Secunderabad) and Often (Road no 10, Banjara Hills).
