Value their dignity
I enjoyed reading the article "Parenting paradox" (June 12). We are living in a time when we need to attend counselling sessions to be good parents. Since information is readily available, the level of awareness has increased considerably. We are often stumped by the questions posed by children. We do need to give a thought to their point of view. It is because of the rigid attitude of parents that conflicts arise. As parents, we should value children's dignity however young they may be. Such small things will go a long way in our having a healthy relationship with our children.
The article "Past, present and future" (June 7) was also thought-provoking. There's no point in pushing a child too much. Parents should be aware of their child's capability and help him/her choose a path accordingly. Such an approach will make life less stressful for them. What's needed is an attitudinal change on the part of the parents.
