Football fever catches on
To commemorate the World Cup football, InterContinental The Grand in New Delhi has revamped its 24-hour restaurant, The Rendezvous and the Champions Bar. The lunch and dinner buffet at The Rendezvous will be designed as per the cuisine of the country whose team plays at the World Cup that day. The country will be represented at the buffet table by a vegetarian and non-vegetarian soup, a main course and a special dish made at the live cooking station. A large screen has also been strategically erected.
The restaurant hopes to attract people who want to watch the game and have a sumptuous meal too. Football here is an additional service, explains Gurmit Singh Barry, Assistant Manager F&B, whereas at the Champions Bar it is the single focus.
The Champions Bar, which has always been dedicated to sport, is targeting the more serious football watcher. It is furnished with one large screen and three sizable televisions. In addition there are 12 personal TFT screens for the football fan who wants to see the match up, close and personally and not over people's heads. The personal screens are being used for the first time in Delhi, says Sandipan Bose, the restaurant manager.
The TFT screens can also be programmed to cricket. Unlike some hotels, The Grand will also telecast the full late-night football match, complete with commentary. And from the quarterfinals onward, liquor will be served past-midnight as the hotel has obtained an extended liquor licence for that period. The football promotion has boosted sales by 50 per cent, says Gurmit. At both the venues three pints of Budweiser Beer will be available at Rs.555 (all inclusive) and six pints at Rs.999. The buffet at The Rendezvous will cost Rs.950 plus taxes.
