Elocution contest

T `Tirukkural Vizha 2006' for school and college students

If you have a way with words and an interest in Tirukkural, here is a competition for you. The literary wing of the Shriram Group, Shriram Ilakiya Kazhagam's `Tirukkural Vizha 2006' is open for school and college students in Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry.

The preliminary round will be held on July 22 in Chennai and August 13 in Pondicherry.

The contestants will be divided into four groups — juniors (Classes 6-8), seniors (Classes 9 and 10), super-seniors (Classes 11 and 12) and college (students of diploma, UG and PG courses). Each institution can send two entries from each class under each category.

Each contestant can speak for five minutes on any of the following topics:

Junior level: "Keadil Vizhuchelvam Kalvi" or "Katrilan Aayenum Kaetka" or "Thonrin Pugazhodu Thonra Venduma?"

Senior level: "Idukkan Idarppaduthaithu" or "Sandron Enakketta Thai" or "Arivudayar Ellam Udayara?"

Super-senior level: "Evva Thuraiva Thulagama" or "Maanam Udaya Tharasu" or "Peiyenappeyyuma Mazhai?"

College level: "Iyatralum Eettalum Kathalum" or "Paalodu then kalandhatre" or "Porulillark ivvulagam illaya?"

The competition will be conducted in three rounds. The prelims and semi-finals will be held on the same day, and the finals will be held in January 2007 in Chennai.

Winners in each group will be given a cash award of Rs. 5,000, Rs. 3,000 and Rs. 2,000 as first, second and third prize respectively. All participants will be awarded certificates.
