Taste of Germany

At Dobbelstein Pizza House is a satisfying experience

Delectable impressiverf varieties

Are you on a day out with your friends and want to grab a quick bite somewhere? Then simply head for Dobbelstein Pizza House. The name may sound strange. And why not? Since its in German! Dobbelstein means `two stones'. However there is nothing "stony" about the place here.

Buzzing

The joint teems with college-goers and youngsters in the evenings while weekends are packed with families.

Dobbelstein was initially introduced as a bakery on Promenade Road, Cantonment.

In 1990, J. Noel Selvaraj started a fast food joint, a concept then relatively new in the city. Selvaraj's short stint at fast food joints in Germany inspired him to start a Chinese restaurant and a pizza parlour matching the ones he had worked for abroad.

"I got a good response here," says Selvaraj, who drew up the menu and gave the dishes exotic names like Hawaiian, Ferrari, Sombrero, and Quarto.

They are all pizzas with various non-vegetarian toppings like ham, minced lamb, barbecued chicken, and prawn.

"We use only halal meat," says Selvaraj who makes it a point to change the menu every six months to cater to the taste buds of his customers.

Vegetarian varieties

The vegetarians are not left out either.

Fresh vegetarian pizza and Mushroom Piccante are available. If this is not enough, sandwiches, hotdogs, salads and Chinese fare can also be ordered.

The Chinese menu includes Manchu soup, Szechwan Noodles, a spicier version of noodles, Fried rice, Chilli Chicken, Garlic Chicken, Chicken Manchurian, Sesame Chicken and Phuket Fish, the latter, a speciality in Dobbelstein.

"Salads are yet to catch up with the locals mainly because customers are reluctant to spend money on sheer uncooked vegetables that can be prepared even at home," points out Selvaraj. What works best is that pizza is at your doorstep just one phone call away.
