Umbrella man

I cannot tell you how much I enjoyed reading the article Cheap Thrills (Metroplus, June 14, 2006). I had the same problem with my favourite umbrella and was looking around for the umbrella-repair-man, on Seppings Road, where there used to be at least half a dozen, with no luck. Then out of the blue I almost ran one down in my car near Coles Park but managed to coax him to my house a short walk away. He came very grudgingly but did a fantastic job for Rs. 20 and I still use the umbrella. He also sent me a man to fix my big plastic drum, which I used for another two years. But alas, most of them, the elusive fixers of everything, have disappeared.
