IN TUNE Michael's Classic Trio performs to a select audience

Since 1982, each year on June 21, the Fete de la Musique is being celebrated in France. It has become a worldwide event now and is popularly known as The World Music Day.

This festival is an occasion for music to be played in streets and public places that are directly accessible to public.

It aims at expressing different music to a large audience in a cheerful atmosphere. This festival gives an opportunity to communicate and share a very special moment through music. The events are held at art galleries, cafes, restaurants and other unusual venues.

This year, Alliance Francaise of Hyderabad celebrated the 25th edition of the Fete de la Musique at Café d' Art, Banjara Hills besides a host of other places.

The Michael's Classic Trio, consisting of Michael Makhal on violin, Loki Pai on bass guitar and Prem Anand on the keyboard, played western classical and folk music for 45 minutes.

Michael started his violin career at a young age of 14 years and got associated with organisations like Delhi Philharmonic society, Bangalore School of Music, Neemrana foundation and other western classical orchestras. Loki Pai is a well-known musician from the city and is a seasoned performer.

Prem Anand, a music teacher, is a western classical musician. He also sings and plays guitar, apart from playing the keyboard.

The lead for this concert was by Michael on the violin. Michael played some popular numbers like 7/8 Shishil - a French composer's piece, Golden Violin, The famous The Sound of Music number Edelweiss, and Brahms' Hungarian dance No.4. He ended the concert with two American folk pieces.

Alliance Francaise needs to be complimented for organising this event on this important day and choosing a venue that was a tad different from the usual ones in the city. More importantly, the program started on time and was kept short and sweet.
