Back to front

In today's jet age, back pain is an all-too-familiar problem. It ranges from a dull, lingering ache to a sudden shooting pain that leaves the person incapacitated. Not only common with the celebrities like Shah Rukh Khan, Sunny Deol, Om Puri, Kailash Kher, spinal problems affect the common men as well. A major cause of morbidity and disabilities, spinal problems also lead to loss of working hours leading to economic loss to the society.

Maharaja Agarsen Hospital, Punjabi Bagh, recently organised a two-day Spine Symposium to look into the cause and remedies. The symposium laid emphasis on practical skill development, including didactic and interactive discussion with hands on workshop on synthetic bones and live surgery.

A number of doctors interested to know about the latest in the management of spinal problems turned up for the symposium. Dr. Khai S. Lam, St Thomas Hospital, London and Dr Ashish Dhar Diwan, St George Hospital, Australia were especially invited for the seminar to share their experiences and knowledge with the Indian faculty. The seminar was divided into four sessions, dealing with discussions on cervical problems, parleys on disc replacements and associated controversies, thoracic lumbar spine trauma and related infections.Live surgery demonstrations were the major highlight of the symposium.
