From the guy who ekes out a meagre living to the man who rolls in luxury, the FIFA World Cup has got them all. In such a scenario, not participating in the football fever is like not existing. From football menu to football quiz, almost every area of human activity seems to have been taken over by the men in colourful jerseys.
Fashion was the only field that had not fallen to this `leggy mania' in the city until Wednesday, when designer Rohini Puri launched her very `with-it' collection, inspired as it is by the colours of the jerseys worn by the teams in the FIFA fray, with a fashion show at Dublin.
Choreographed by Ajit Menon, the show contained three designer sequences and one based on Lawman Jeans (which sponsored the show) products. A sneak preview was organised for presspersons hours before the show.
The girls Paloma, Ketaki, Tanvi and Rochelle were wearing baby doll dresses, backless, tied-up tops with black or white capris and a range of casual knits with football motifs. Accessories included feathered headbands (Paloma was impressive, wearing the Brazilian colours and an array of coloured feathers on her head, and sashaying to the rhythm of the song Brazil), wristbands, sequins and football earrings.
The men Praveen, Manan, Mario and Jae combined cotton shirts with upturned shorts, fitted tees with jeans and cargoes with casual T-shirts.
With this collection, Rohini's career gets off to a kicking start in Chennai. "I was operating in Bangalore and am new to Chennai." She moved to Chennai two years ago, thanks to marriage; however, only recently did she shift her business to the city.
The football motifs spilled over to the table, with the ashtrays imitating the football in colour and shape and texture (leather used to make footballs, covered steel containers). The ash holders also announced Kingfisher's contribution to the show.
A special football menu rounded off the evening's all-soccer entertainment.
