His success story

Himmesh Reshammiya came in from the cold and is today the numero uno music director in Bollywood. He was recently signed up for a record sum to do Kamal Hassan's new film, Dasavatharamin Tamil. Himesh's popularity is largely due to television and his music videos have influenced the youth of the country. He started his career 10 years ago by recording nearly 1000 hours of music for Zee TV. It was only after he began providing music, which was a mix of hip hop and bhangra pop in Bollywood, that he became a rage among the Gen Next audience. His album `Aap Ka Suroor', which was promoted on TV in a big way, went a long way in establishing his distinct voice with its nasal twang and Sufi style. Reshammiya acknowledges the fact that it was the small screen that gave him the reach, especially after he became a judge for "Sa Re Ga Ma Challenge-2005" on Zee TV. He also mentored the winners, giving them a chance to sing in his film albums. Last week, Himesh once again found himself judging another show, this time "Boogie Woogie" (Sony, Friday, 9 p.m.). Looks like music shows on TV are going to be the launch pad for future singers and music directors.

Sister special

And now, STAR Plus has a winner in "Jodee Kamal Ki" (Saturday, 8 p.m.), a unique game show featuring celebrities. The show is based on the universal theme of love, companionship and understanding. It probes the compatibility level of couples, while providing them with a platform to participate as a team. Last Saturday, the channel came up with another interesting show "Sisters Special", where real life sisters _ Juhi and Heena Paramar, Tina and Manisha Parekh, Rucha and Prachi Gujarati _ shared funny moments from their lives.
