Hero returns

"Superman Returns", the big Hollywood summer special, opened worldwide on Friday.

Brandon Routh takes over as Clark Kent alias Superman, first played by Chris Reeve.

In a press note issued by Warner Brothers, the producers, Routh says, "Chris Reeve is my superman. It is a great honour for me to step into his shoes (here Superman costume) and be part of a legacy."

Superman is just not any comic book hero; he is the quintessential superhero who fights against injustice.

Kate Bosworth appears as Lois Lane and the great actor Kevin Spacey is said to be extraordinary as the evil Lex Luther.

Rakesh Roshan's "Krrish" took the best ever opening for a Hindi film in Tamil Nadu and Kerala. From 17 Hindi prints, the film has netted an amazing Rs. 46.58 lakh during its opening weekend (June 23-25). From four screens in Chennai, including Mayajaal, "Krrish" created a new city record with a whopping Rs. 26.53 lakh. Hrithik has been able to bring the family audience back to the theatres.

Big Budget film

Kamal Hassan is back after holidaying in the U.S., with a cleanshaven look. Kamal will start shooting for the K. S. Ravikumardirected "Dasavatharam" in the first week of July. The film promises to be different with Kamal playing 10 characters for which he has special make-up. The buzz is that Shriya is likely to be the heroine and Bollywood's hot-shot music director Himesh Reshammiya has been signed up to compose six peppy songs. According to producer `Oscar' Ravichandran: "`Dasavatharam' will be a big budget extravaganza that will cost around Rs. 25 crore. Kamal looked stunning and I myself could not recognise him after the make-up. We are planning to make the film in Tamil, Hindi and Telugu simultaneously."

The commandos Big

Jeeva teams up with Mohanlal, one of the finest actors in the country for a bilingual _ "Aran" in Tamil and "Keerthichakra" in Malayalam. The film is directed by Major Ravi, a former Army commando. "Aran" is set against the backdrop of terrorism in Kashmir, though the story is about the love and respect a senior Army officer has for his junior. The film was shot in exotic locations of Srinagar with the support of the Indian Army and the BSF. It is sure to give Jeeva a new image. The post-production work of the film is going on in full swing.
