A dog is not just faithful, but is an adorable creature that makes the home a happier place to live in, canine-lovers tell K.N. MURALI SANKAR

CANINE CARNIVAL Dogs of different breed made an interesting spectacle at the camp.
"I am Sorry Babbu! I know it's painful, but it is good for you," Pallavi said stroking Babbu's silky fur and hugging it affectionately. But the eleven-month-old leapt out of her lap and began to prance around, caring little to pay heed to Pallavi's advice.
Babbu was never like this. A loving pet dog of Pallavi, the canine has been trained to behave more sensibly than human beings.
A resident of Krishnalanka, Pallavi goes on to explain how difficult it was during the transitional period - when the white Pomeranian joined its new family, to handle and train the canine. But the result of the training is as fascinating as was the transition period. It has helped Pallavi understand and respect the canine behaviour.
Babbu has mastered the art of amusing Pallavi who cannot stop raving about her playful pranks. The latter's daily chores include bringing newspaper to Pallavi while she is still in bed and giving company to her in playing with a ball in the evenings.
But having the canine inoculated against rabies at a vaccination camp in Mogulrajpuram on the World Zoonosis Day was quite a task for Pallavi. The Pomeranian had to be chained to the gate of an apartment complex, which left Pallavi almost in tears.
Better understanding
Training methods enable owners to better understand and communicate with their pet dogs. They not only lay a good foundation to a lifelong relationship but also help strengthen the bond between you and your pet.
Chandan Apartments near Madhu Chowk became the destination of many of Babbu's friends from various breeds, who thronged the place wagging their tails.
Trexy, yet another Pomeranian, followed, a real estate trader from Moghalrajapuram until she reached the venue. "The very sight of her energises me even at the fag end of a hectic day. I love the way she wiggles her bushy tail," says a proud Sudhakar, trying to convince Trexy to stay where she was.
"I can't pass a single day without my Shiny," gushes Renuka, holding her pet close to her heart. A housewife from Suryaraopet, the woman waited at the camp for a while to make sure that images of her dog were included in the vaccination programme being recorded by a local television channel. "I can't wait to see my darling on the TV," she says with excitement. P. Chakravarthi is a dentist from Suryaraopet and has an emotional bond with his Terrier, Blacky.
Disciplined lot
Busy enquiring about other vaccines to be given to the dog, he pauses for a while to explain how disciplined Blacky is. "You will see how quietly it agrees for the vaccination," he tells the veterinary doctor with an admiration for his pet dog.
For retired teacher, D.P. Basavayya, it was difficult to control the playful Jimmy, which desperately tried to dive out of the auto-rickshaw he hired to bring her to the camp.
Dog-lovers are unanimous in their view that the presence of a canine at home makes a world of a difference since life with it becomes fun and rewarding.
