FIFA FEVER Microsoft bags the Championship Trophy

The spirit of the FIFA World cup, held once in four years, unites the world during this time and to celebrate and savour the month long action in Germany, the budding Ronaldinhos, Ronaldos and Rooney's at the Microsoft Campus in Hyderabad hosted the Microsoft Soccer Fest 2006.

The tournament, played on the lush green campus grounds had 27 teams participating.

Soccer fans from the company have been driving the event, which has seen a lot of frantic football practice on the ground. A get- fit routine was also adopted by many. Each team had 6 players on the field including the goalie. The knock out tournament had all the players teams play in professional gear - with jerseys and shorts provided to each team, three referees per match, man-of-the-match awards and some very professional goal-posts.

The games were absorbing with some breakout performances, beautiful goals and tremendous skills displayed and some sturdy defence lines. Hard to imagine the `geeks' who spend a large chunk of their time seated in front of machines, could be so fit and energetic. The tournament even attracted a team from Microsoft Security - unfortunately, they could not guard the goal as well as they do the employees and their assets!

Many players have even reported that their preparation for their matches has helped them shed several kilos in the process. Some have hailed the tournament simply for the health inducing benefits it has offered as a consequence.

One of the highlights was the projection of all the matches into the big screens in both the cafeterias at campus. The buzz about the event has been spreading around the Maninkonda precinct of campuses so much so that neighbour- The Indian School of Business wanted to taste the action and sought a friendly match. ISB lost to the Microsoft team after putting up a fierce fight. The Soccer Fest Finals culminated on Friday lastwith extra focus on a final face off between the Microsoft Windows Blues team and Infosys. Supporters from the Infy team were invited to participate as Microsoft employees rallied with loud support for their team. Windows ruled the day with a 1-0 taking home the Championship Trophy and a raft of other prizes.
