DOUBLE TROUBLE Krishnamachari Srikkanth and Boman Irani add drama to the evening

One's ordeal turns out to be humour for another. So when actor Boman Irani seriously narrates how he had to take a boat to reach the Mumbai airport and board the only flight (to Kathmandu) that was not cancelled, and then reach Hyderabad via Nepal, the audience is in splits. The incidents are far fetched and as Boman explains, are meant "to add some drama to the evening." His partner on stage, former cricketer Krishnamachari Srikkanth, too pitches in with equal ιlan. He recalls having used the 1983 World Cup tour to England as an excuse for his honeymoon.

Srikkanth and Boman Irani were in the city to present the Teacher's Highnights. Beginning their tour of nine cities, they will be presenting Teacher's Highnights to raise a toast to the Teacher's Achievement Award winners. The winners for 2005 are Subir Raha (business), communication (Ram Madhvani), entertainment (Sonu Nigam), Anjali Bhagwat and Narain Karthikeyan (sports) and lifetime achievement (Y.C. Deveshwar).

The evening got off to a slow start eliciting just a few laughs, but once Boman and Srikkanth broke the ice on the stage, there was no stopping them.

From taking a dig at Mumbai for its rude city tag to drawing Parsi jokes from past personal experiences, Boman showed that he had a pulse on what the audience wants. If at all you questioned his versatility, you would have changed your opinion hearing him croon We are the world imitating styles of many inimitable singers. Srikkanth, on his part, fielded cricket related questions from the audience and his answers, as always, were witty.

On the whole, a humorous evening. But just an after thought: Were the free flowing spirits the reason why some of the guests had a truly `high' night?
