Magical moments

Watch the tale of Aladdin unfold in a production by Landing Stage

HILARIOUS TWISTS AND TURNS A scene from "Aladdin"

Landing Stage brings to life the magical story of Aladdin and his lamp from the Arabian Nights. The timeless tale of the street urchin who became a prince is transformed into a play with some hilarious twists and turns.

Aladdin, cheated by his uncle, is trapped in an enchanted cave and doesn't know how to get out. But when he discovers a lamp and its magnificent secret, his fortune is changed forever. And it's now up to him to win the heart of the princess and get rid of his evil uncle forever.

The play, scripted by Manasi Subramaniam and directed by Aruna Ganesh Ram, will be staged on July 18, 19 and 20 at the Alliance Francaise de Madras, College Road, Nungambakkam. A total of nine shows will be held — six for schools and three for the public at 7.30 p.m. Donor passes, priced at Rs. 100, are available at Landmark and Alliance Francaise. Bulk booking is also possible at subsidised rates. For details, email landingstage@gmail.com or call 98413 86896 or 98413 08402.

Landing Stage is a youth-run theatre group in Chennai and provides a platform for those who are neither eligible for children's theatre groups nor for mainstream participation in artistic activities. It provides one with the leeway to explore one's creative instincts. The areas of specialisation here range from learning the management operations of the theatre process and designing sets to learning lighting essentials, music engineering and acoustic management. If you are a writer, Landing Stage gets the group to read your work or stage it in workshops. It produces two theatre performances a year — one consequent to its Summer Workshop (Pushing Boundaries) and, the other, which is a pre-Christmas production, mainly targeted at children.
