An eco resort
ALL GREEN Our Native Village claims to be Bangalore's first 100 percent eco-friendly resort.
Our Native Village, an eco resort on a three-acre farm, has recently opened on the outskirts of Bangalore, near Hesaraghatta. They claim to be Bangalore's first 100 per cent eco resort, where only 20 per cent of the land has been constructed upon and the rest is used to grow food produce, herbs and medicinal plants. Even vegetables that go into the food here will be grown organically on the farm.
The promoters propose to generate more than 95 per cent of their electricity using solar panels, windmills and biogas plants. All the waste generated will be treated using leach pits, reed water pits and recycling processes using a biogas digester.
The resort hopes to meet nearly 60 per cent of its water needs with rainwater harvested across the roofs and collected into a 60,000 litre dedicated rainwater tank. Even the bricks used for construction are "stabilised mud bricks" made from earth dug up for the foundation of the resort.
There is also a move to have India's first natural swimming pool where aquatic plants and not chlorine will purify water. A traditional Indian spa will offer Ayurvedic packages.
There are some interesting ideas lined up keeping the village theme in mind a trip to neighbouring villages in bullock carts where they will issue bullock-cart driving licences! Activities include teaching guests how to churn butter, milk a cow, start a compost pit, grow organic vegetables, and plough a field.
Plans are on to revive traditional games such as gilli danda, spinning tops, marbles, flying kites and revive interest in the veeragallus (hero stones) in the region.
