Slow and steady

Right temperament and training matter to keep fit, says Irene Nazira Lee, Reebok Global Master Trainer

FITNESS FUNDAS Irene Nazira Lee

Optimum is the key. Just why are sporting equipment and accessories becoming so smart? So that we have no excuse not to exercise.

"There is no perfection. Nobody is perfect," says Irene Nazira Lee, Reebok Global Master Trainer for more than 20 years. Highly qualified, not only by experience but also by the number of degrees and diplomas she holds, Irene was in the city to demonstrate the advantages of the new Reebok Deck. So the good news is that we don't have to look like Angelina Jolie. "Muscle mass or bone structure varies from person to person. ," says Irene.

In an age where there isn't much time, people want results, and want them quick. "Trainers must explain to them that each individual body is different. And taking smart exercise regimes off the net isn't the solution." Fitness is no longer just a lifestyle differentiator. For some it's a passion, and for those few who have the courage to turn it into a profession, it's a pretty rewarding one. You don't just look good, and help others look good. You are fit, you feel better, and you get paid for that.

At the workshop, organised to coincide with the launch of the Reebok Deck, Irene's audience consisted of professional trainers and an almost equal number of fitness enthusiasts. The beautiful bodies that filled the room learnt to use the new equipment. The exercise platform like all other intelligent Reebok products is a multi-purpose piece of must-have sporting equipment that can be used to tone your legs, back, arms and stomach. It's compact enough to be conveniently slipped under you bed, when you are not using it. Reebok takes it's training programme pretty seriously. It even has its own University to ensure that what the company sells is backed by research, and supported by streamlined training programmes conducted by experts like Irene.

For that Greek God silhouette, you have to work hard. But also have patience, she cautions.

"Overstressing could result in a breakdown, and injury. And pain is never a good thing. And then psychologically people are put off exercising," says Irene.

The expert also shared some basic but sound advice: "There is no excuse for not exercising. You just need an hour everyday. Break down your regime into 20 minutes of cardiovascular, 30 minutes of muscle conditioning and 10 minutes for flexibility."
