VIRTUAL MECHANIC

Car and bike questions? We have the answers

I currently own a Hero Honda Passion and am looking forward to changing my bike. My friends have suggested the Pulsar saying it is better for me, but I believe this is afive-stroke engine. Could you please suggest a bike with a four-stroke engine and a good mileage?

N Ashiq Ali,

via email

There is nothing in the world yet, in our knowledge, called a `five-stroke engine'. The Pulsar is a four-stroke bike like you're seeking, and is a good option to select. Go ahead and buy it, but remember to wear a helmet and ride responsibly.

I need a bike with very good fuel economy and good performance along with stability and long-term reliability. It could be anything from 100 to 125 cc in displacement. Can you help me out?

Dr Sagar,

Judging by your requirements, the best bike for you in the 100-125cc range is Bajaj's 125cc Discover. It does offer a good blend of mileage, performance, stability and reliability.

I bought an Activa two months ago. After its first service, a cranking sound started coming from the engine. What should I do to get my Activa back in perfect condition? Do I need to change the engine oil? What is your advice?

Anmol,

You must have your bike attended to immediately by a Honda authorised mechanic. It is impossible for us to make out what exactly is wrong with the bike, going by what you describe.

I have a Discover 125cc and I want to modify my bike because I don't like its sleek look. I am planning a full size engine cover and changing the silencer and rear tyre. What do you suggest? If possible, please suggest a good mechanic for this modification.

Arjun,

Do not carry out any such modifications to your bike as these will almost always cause more damage than good.

I have a question about which bike to choose. I need something which gives good fuel economy and is easy on my back because I ride at least 100 km a day. I am short and weigh only 56 kg and therefore am concerned about handling. Can you please help me choose a suitable bike?

Vasim Ahmed,

The TVS Apache is a good option to choose - it is a quick-steering, short wheelbase bike that also features a suitably low saddle height - try it out at the nearest dealership, and we're sure it will fit you perfectly!
