Panna National Park
Panna National Park is situated in the Vindhyas ranges and spreads over Panna and Chhatarpur districts in Madhya Pradesh. The region is home to some of the best wildlife species in India and is one of the Tiger Reserves in the country.
It is at a distance of around 27 km from the temple city of Khajuraho. The park is known for its wild cats as well as deer and antelope. The Ken river, a perennial river, flows through the park.
Panna National Reserve was created in 1981 and declared a Project Tiger Reserve in 1994.
Area: 543 sq km
Animals: Tiger, panther, blue bull, wild dog, wolf, hyena, caracal and sloth bear. One can also spot the sambar, chital, chowsingha, nilgai and chinkara in most open areas.
Reptiles: Long snouted crocodile (gharial) and fresh water crocodile (mugger) are found in the Ken.
Birds: White necked stork, barheaded goose, painted francolin, king vulture, blossom headed parakeet, paradise flycatcher, slaty-headed scimitar babbler. Best Time to Visit: November to February. The park is open from October to June
How to get there
Air: The nearest airport is Khajuraho, around 27 km from the Panna National Park.
Rail: Sathna, around 90 km, is the nearest railway station. Jhansi is 190 km away.
Bus: The nearest bus stand is Panna.
Accommodation: There are inspection huts at Hinouta and Madla.
