All for a cause
As part of sensitising people towards the need to clean up the Noyyal and doing their bit for a river that has flowed in this region for centuries, actor Suriya interacted with students and workers during his visit here.
At CRI Pumps, he met close to 700 workers, who handed over a cheque containing their donation. The management matched their contribution. "It is not enough if corporates contribute, the common man must too," he said.
At PSG College of Arts and Science, he spoke about how this project would be a milestone in the history of Coimbatore. "It will make the world look up to Coimbatore," he said, and appealed to students to contribute handsomely. Show the world that students are not far behind when it comes to environmental awareness, he said. "Who will collect more, the boys or girls?" he asked, leaving them competing with each other.
A smaller crowd waited for the actor at Hindustan CAS.
"You have to do something for the river. It is not enough it you contribute. Talk to your friends, neighbours... You must become ambassadors of this project," he told them. Their reward? "I will return on the 100th day of the project," Suriya said.
