A three-in-one cardio exercise machine was recently launched in New Delhi

Fitness enthusiasts in India usually depend on traditional linear machines for cardio exercises. Technogym, an Italy-based fitness company, has developed a unique three-planar cardio device. It was recently launched in Delhi at the Amatrra Spa, Hotel Ashok. The hotel is one of the first to have the machine, called the Cardio Wave, in its gymnasium. This is one more feather in the cap of the outfit that recently won the `Best Day Spa in a Hotel' award of the Tourism Ministry. .

A three-in-one machine designed for exercising the gluteus muscles, the device can also be used for cardiovascular exercise involving calorie burning and strengthening of lower limbs, says Pankaj Arora, India Manager, Technogym. The adjustable positions enable the user to regulate the activation level of the muscles to get the best toning. . The exercise combines three distinct movements - extension, contraction and external rotation - simultaneously. It is fitted with a near infrared spectroscopy device to study muscle activation with an inbuilt LCD monitor and headsets to check time, distance and calorie goals. It also monitors fitness, weightand performance. The device is cordless and weighs around 130 kg. It teleprompts in English, Italian and French. Cardio Wave's multi-planar functions were demonstrated by by the German choreographer Svejtlana. The visitors were also regaled by Asia Electrik's three virtuosos, Louis Banks, Shivamani and Niladri kumar. Shivamani seemed completely absorbed in his percussion. Niladri played his electric sitar in sync with his mentor Louis Banks, father of Indian Jazz.

Moving back to Technogym, it was founded in 1983 by Neiro Alessandri. The company has mushroomed as one of the leading manufacturers of fitness appliances. Alessasandri was awarded Italy's youngest entrepreneur of 2003 for manufacturing state-of-the-art fitness equipment.
