The Hong Kong restaurant in the Gulmohar Complex at Green Park prides itself on authentic Chinese fare

AUTHENTIC The chefs at the Hong Kong restaurant

When it comes to Chinese fare, there seems no dearth of restaurants in the Capital specialising in Chinese cuisine, but what makes all the difference is the quality and the price. Nearly fulfilling these specifications is the Hong Kong restaurant nestled in the Gulmohar Complex in Green Park.

Set up a year back, the restaurant is the perfect amalgam of a comfortable ambience and an enriching culinary experience.

A `welcome note' in Chinese at its entrance and the exquisite Chinese artefacts on the walls inside create a traditional Chinese ambience. Interestingly, the menu also bears Chinese names of delicacies like Khai for chicken and Har for prawn, etc.

The best part of the restaurant is the Chinese Chef Steve Lee. He belongs to the Lee family of chefs. "I created the menu myself, based it according to what customers like and cook the way my ancestors taught me," says Steve with pride.

The restaurant claims that from the soup to the main course everything is authentic Chinese.

The enticing, sweetly fragrant jasmine tea is served before, between and after the meal. It acts as an appetiser and digestive agent.

Lingering taste

For starters one can opt forfried chicken dumpling, fried chilli potato, and drums of heaven thatleave one with a lingering taste. In the soup section, one can choose from the popular ones likesubkum wonton, manchow, sweet corn, and tolumein.

The main-coursehas some delectable treasures for non-vegetarians as well as vegetarians. These include chilli garlic noodles, Szechuan veg, chicken honey chilli, Manchurian prawn, and the all-time favourite vegetable Manchurian. For all those having a weakness for seafood Hong Kong has fried whole pomfret, Mandarin fish, and chilli fish. In desserts, mouth-watering pancake with a filling of datesis a good choiceto conclude the meal.

This 35-seater restaurant also has a special lunch menu with affordable rates aimed at executives. "The preparation of dishes and sourcing of raw materials is personally supervised by Chef Lee," says Zaidi, one of the owners of the restaurant. The added attraction is the newly installed bar with a variety of wines and beer. The restaurant is currently offering 20 per centdiscount on all alcoholic beverages.
