Queries Answered

* Baskar S. Ayer (mindscan@vsnl.com) wanted the names and addresses of Chennai restaurants that serve authentic Jain food (vegetarian, without onion and garlic). R Bharathwaj recommends Mathura restaurant of the Woodlands group situated at Tarapore Towers (Mount Road) opposite Cosmopolitan Club. The food is good and reasonably priced.

* Madhavan had enquired about hygienic ice. He has found out that there is only one such manufacturer in Chennai and their product is called R.O. Ice, which is manufactured from mineral water (water filtered, UV treated, reverse osmosis processed). They are manufacturing 100 tonnes per day. They even supply tube ice at the doorstep. Address: R.O. Ice, c/o Pen Food Pvt Ltd, JVL Towers, Third Floor, 117, Nelson Manickam Road, Aminjikarai, Chennai-600029. Ph:98404 55586, 99400 70031,99401 60832.

* Muthu Beena (beenamuthu@yahoo.co.in) got the opportunity to visit the Malaysian Company manufacturing the R.O. Ice, and says that it was quite interesting to see the manufacturing process. A high standard of quality control is maintained. Due to lack of awareness, many hotels, juice shops and caterers still use only bar or ice slabs that are manufactured unhygenically. He would like to know why the Health Department has not taken any action to regularise the ice-manufacturing units and to create awareness among people about the usage and availability of hygienically manufactured ice.
