Shakespeare Millennium Club will conduct a "Shakespeare cooks" contest in which women will make dishes mentioned in Shakespeare's plays.
The contest will be held on July 23 (11 a.m.) at Pallava Hall, Cosmopolitan Club, Anna Salai. They will try out recipes of Victuals and Viands through different varieties of sweetmeats.
Shakespeare has provided a bill of fare in Henry IV Part 1 and he also mentions "buffet", "feast", "wholesome food", "square meal" as also "cakes", "pie" and "porridge" and even a "gossip's bowl with roasted crab (apple)", which is nothing but fruit punch.
The programme will include four groups (IAS Officers' Wives' Association, Shakespeare Millennium Club, students and S.H.G. women of Raj Bhavan) of women with five representatives from each. The 20 participants are required to make innovative presentation of the dishes using Nestle's Milkmaid condensed milk as an ingredient. All are invited to view the exhibits between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. at the Cosmopolitan Club. For details call 98840 69352.
