What is achievement? You might flip through the pages of your Oxford dictionary to find its literal meaning. But well-known actor Boman Irani, popularly called `Mamu' together with the former Indian cricket captain Kris Srikkanth, explored the new dimensions of achievement this past week.
The duo was in the Capital to celebrate the achievements of Beam Global Spirits and Wine, said to be the fourth largest wine company in the world, through the Teachers Highlights, scheduled to be held in November this year.
Instituted in 2001, the Teacher Achievement Award honours achievers in different fields like sports, communication and entertainment, inspiring others in the process.
There is also one Teacher's Lifetime Achievement Award, which is given every year to a person dedicated to his or her respective field. Some of the names in the list are Mahesh Bhupati, Feroz Khan, Shaimak Dawar, Naina Lala Kidwai, Yash Chopra, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, Nagesh Kukunoor, Tarun Khiwal and many more yet come.
Both Boman Irani and Srikkanth, achievers in true sense in their respective fields, hosted the evening for the socialites of the city. The bubbly Boman kicked off the event with his version of achievement and then the swashbuckling former Indian opener, known to his friends as `Chikka', joined him.
Together they enthralled the audience with their hilarious acts. Kris also shared anecdotes of his cricketing days and disclosed his admiration for his contemporaries, Kapil Dev and Sunil Gavaskar.
People enjoyed the quizzing session with Srikkanth as it was meant to pull his leg and went hysterical when Boman cracked Parsi jokes. The event came to a close with Boman singing the famous Michael Jackson song "We are the world", an act he really performed well.
