RAISING STANDARDS Rangmanch is aimed at improving the quality of youth theatre in the city

Flawed Genius, a youth society, is hosting an English theatre festival called Rangmanch in the city. The three-day festival, sponsored by Hutch, kicks off on July 27 at the Bal Bhavan in Cubbon Park, culminating on July 29 in a grand finale of the best performances at the festival.

Unlike many other youth theatre festivals, Rangmanch incorporates some unique features aimed at raising the standard of the competition and of youth theatre in the city. Thus, every participating team will be helped by a technical adviser who will provide help with the lighting and sound, as these are the two areas in which youth productions fall short. The technical adviser for the festival is Bhaskar, the director of the theatre group Curtain Call.

Prizes in the competition will be awarded in both the critics' choice and audience choice categories, so as to cater to the viewing public's taste as well. Besides certificates and cash awards, the winners of the festival will also get a chance to participate in a workshop organised by theatre person Kirtana Kumar.

All plays in the Rangmanch festival are free and open to the public.
