A melting pot

The food court at MAHE caters to all tastes

UNDER ONE ROOF A range of private food chains operate at the food court

The food court at the Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) campus at Manipal is a virtual melting pot. This is the place where students coming from 51 different countries interact with each other.

Considering their diverse backgrounds, MAHE has made arrangements to provide all kinds of food under a single roof here. A range of private food chains — Subway, Asian K Flavour, Pizza Corner, Noodles King, Barista and so on — are housed here.

The first floor of the food court is centrally air-conditioned. H.S. Ballal, Pro-Chancellor of MAHE, says: "North Indian, south Indian, continental and inter-continental food is provided to the students coming from different parts of India and 51 countries."

If the reactions from the students are any indication, the food court is a big hit. Says Edwin from Malaysia, a student of Melaka Manipal Medical College, a constituent unit of MAHE: "The food provided from the Asian K Flavour outlet at the food court is good. It tastes truly Malaysian!"

Chips in Christine Maxine Joseph, also from Malaysia: "It gives me a feeling of home away from home."

The food court also provides fare that is not part of any international chain. The common mess on the ground floor provides breakfast, lunch and dinner to the students at an affordable price of Rs. 45. MAHE has plans of setting up new outlets on the second floor of the food court.
