BOLD APPROACH

Are Hindi serials becoming bold and steamy? Take a look at "Viraasat" (STAR Plus), which is about two people (Rohit Roy and Sangeeta Ghosh) from warring families, falling in love and getting married. In the serial, the newly-weds were shown doing intimate scenes, never before seen on Indian television. Suddenly, TV actors are getting bolder and serials such as "Viraasat," "Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi," "Kasam Se" and "Kasauti Zindagi Kay" are explicit in their portrayals. . Most production houses claim the story demands it, though critics say it is just a gimmick to increase TRPs. Serial makers say this new trend is a reflection of our society opening up. Says Ravi Chopra of BR Films, producers of "Viraasat": "It is time we stopped being hypocritical and showed what is happening around us." Looks like Hindi serials are following in the footsteps of Bollywood to boost TRPs.
