THE MASKED MAN The mask sported by Hrithik Roshan in `Krrish' is a rage with children

Dress up! Dresses in soft cottons that fall elegantly to cover your knee or stop a little above are ruling the streets of New York. The hemlines are getting shorter, as expected, since it is summer for them. Though we are well into the monsoons, dresses have made an appearance here. Visit any mall in the city and you will find a selection of dresses in soft cottons and synthetics. Definitely a head turner for an evening wear, the dresses are ultra feminine. At times, these dresses double up as tunics as well. While the knee-length dresses are finding takers in Hyderabad, we may not warm up to mini and micro dresses of New York.

The man and his mask: What's hot among fashion accessories and utilitarian items amongst kids are Superman, Hanuman and Krrish merchandises. Apparently, Hrithik Roshan tried out almost 70 masks, brought to him by national and international designers, before selecting the black one he sports in the film. While on India's first superhero, here's a nugget on the leather outfit worn by Hrithik. Before his current avatar, Hrithik had considered wearing a lungi! But since superheroes have to be more up-to-the-minute, in came the long leather jacket. The Hanuman knickknacks include maces (gadda), stationery and puzzles.

Suit yourself: A few weeks ago, we told you that georgette and chiffon floral tops are must haves. Not just for chic tops to go with your denims, these georgette and chiffon fabrics with floral prints are also in demand, going by the number of visitors to such stalls in the recent AP Crafts Council expo. Use them as stoles, dupattas, sarees or kurtas.

Bright velvets: Here's a forecast. Velvets, which returned to vogue last winter, will continue to inspire fashion trends winter 2006 as well. By velvets, we don't mean those awfully bright ones bordering on gaudy outfits. The colours will be subdued and make the outfit classy. If you want an affirmation, check out Abhishek Bachchan in a burnt orange coloured velvet jacket matching steps with Preity Zinta in Where's the Party Tonight? for Karan Johar's Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna.

Styled the Italian way: We'll leave you with a trivia. The Men in Blue, read members of the Indian cricket team, are set to sport a more contemporary look. The Italian firm Canali will give our boys a whole new look. Travelling suits, accessories including shoes, shirts and ties are on the offing.
