Are Weddings becoming extravagant?

Changing trend

The once conservative Chennaiites are today definitely splurging on weddings, thanks to their increasing capacity to spend. I have even organised theme wedding parties, one of them was based on a film award function. From tickets, which had the couple's picture, to stage and the lights, everything had a filmy touch. The elders were given awards and thanked by the youngsters for being the pillars of the family. Sangeet and mehendi ceremonies, which are not part of south Indian weddings, have today become a common feature. As a wedding planner, I am happy. But the trend does not augur well for the lower middle class who may not be able to afford, yet want a grand celebration. If people have the money, there is no harm. After all wedding is a once-in-a-lifetime affair.
