Going by the Indian psyche, weddings have always been grand. It is only the degree that varied depending upon one's spending power. But in recent times, the extent to which the affluent compete with each other to display their wealth and status has reached unimaginable limits. The rest of the society also apes them as much as possible. People no longer feel embarrassed about flaunting wealth and power. And weddings are the best occasions for such ugly displays.
